Earth Day began in 1970 and is known as the birth of the modern environmental movement. Celebrated every year on April 22, Earth Day is a time to rally around the globe, raising awareness, cleansing the world and generally trying to treat the land with more respect.
Every year people gather together to raise awareness for a cause that is important to them and their community. We can do this by planting trees and other greenery, taking steps towards reducing pollution, and reducing the amount of waste we produce as a society overall. There are many ways that each one of us can contribute to our planet's well being in small ways.
The Earth Day 2023 theme is focused on engaging the more than 1 billion people, governments, institutions, and businesses who participate in Earth Day to recognize our collective responsibility and to help accelerate the transition to an equitable, prosperous green economy for all. We are focused on reframing the conversation, accelerating action, and bringing everyone together to understand that this is within our reach if we work together.

WHAT WE DO AT MOLLY WOPPY TO HELP CARE FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT
Every year we donate to Trees that Count to mitigate our impact on the environment and to help protect New Zealand’s biodiversity – that’s good for our carbon footprint AND good for New Zealand. Read about our 2022 match HERE.
We introduced our award-winning plant-based range in 2021 as a response to the growing need for plant-based foods. Mindful consumers are aware of the negative effects that animal-based diets can have on the environment and are making more plant-based choices where they can to offset their own carbon footprints. Caring for our planet has never been more important than right now, and we continue to commit to making more sustainable choices throughout our business - and that includes creating innovative and delicious plant-based cookie flavours.
Another way we lessen our impact on the planet is through reducing our food waste. Here at Molly Woppy, we avoid food waste as much as possible. Our packaging is designed to keep our cookies fresh whilst still being recyclable. Our cookies are handmade, which means we can minimise wastage - just like you would at home baking cookies, we batch make our cookies and keep rolling until every bit is used. Food packaging can be a tricky one when it comes to sustainability and the environment, and we are continually looking for ways to improve our packaging. We wrote a guide on how to responsibly recycle our packaging HERE and advocate everyone to do their part and be a tidy kiwi.
